Torra Bay opens its gates for just two months of the year — December and January — as a dedicated seasonal fishing camp inside Skeleton Coast National Park. During those two months it becomes one of the most popular camps on the Namibian coast, drawing serious anglers to what is considered prime fishing territory: the cold Benguela Current delivers exceptional catches right from the shore. The rest of the year, the camp is closed.
Facilities are basic and deliberately so — this camp exists for anglers, not general tourists. Bring all your own equipment and provisions. There is a fuel station on site, but availability cannot always be guaranteed, so fill up before you arrive. A fishing licence from the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources is required before entering Skeleton Coast National Park.
Torra Bay offers basic campsites with communal ablution facilities — showers and toilets shared across the camp. Sites accommodate up to 8 people. Due to the seasonal nature of the camp, facilities are kept deliberately simple: this is a destination for dedicated anglers who want access to exceptional Skeleton Coast fishing, not a resort experience. Bring your own tent, equipment, food and supplies — there is no shop or restaurant on site.
A fuel station is available at the camp but availability cannot be guaranteed. Fill up before you arrive. Fishing licences must be obtained from the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources before entering the park.
The cold Benguela Current — the same force that makes this coast so atmospheric, with its fog and cold air — also drives one of the most productive marine ecosystems on earth. Shore fishing here during December and January is exceptional by any standard: steenbras, kabeljou, galjoen and more come within reach of a well-cast line from the beach. This is why the camp fills every season, and why bookings need to be made well in advance.
The Skeleton Coast landscape itself is unlike anything else — vast, windswept, primal. Torra Bay sits within the national park, meaning the dunes, the fog, the silence, and the occasional seal or jackal are part of the experience even when you're not fishing.
