Located along the Skeleton Coast approximately 34 kilometres south of the Ugab entrance gate to Skeleton Coast National Park, Mile 108 offers the full raw experience of this extraordinary coastline without the daily park fee. Pristine beaches, cold Atlantic surf, and some of the best shore fishing in southern Africa — kabeljou, surf sharks, and more — are right on your doorstep.
The camp runs entirely on solar power and donkey boilers, with no electrical plugs at any site or hut. Cell signal and Wi-Fi are available at reception only. This is a genuinely remote, off-grid destination — bring everything you need, pack your fishing gear, and plan to stay a few days. The Cape Cross Seal Colony, lichen fields, and Skeleton Coast shipwrecks are all within reach.
The simplest option at Mile 108 — large open sites just off the beach with a braai area and access to communal toilet and shower blocks. There is no power or lighting at these sites, so bring your own torches and charge devices at home. These are stripped-back, genuine bush camping sites right on one of the world's most dramatic coastlines. The most affordable option and perfect for self-sufficient campers who just want the beach and the fishing.
A step up from the basic sites — each self-contained campsite has its own private toilet and shower, heated by a donkey boiler (fire-heated water system). The same generous site size and braai area as the basic camping, but with the privacy of your own ablutions. Still no electrical power or lighting at the site itself — the camp runs entirely on solar and donkey boiler. Ideal for groups wanting privacy without paying for the premium beachfront sites.
The premium camping option at Mile 108 — only 5 of these sites exist, set directly along the beachfront. Each has its own private shower, toilet, wash basin, and light. Priced per site (up to 4 guests) rather than per person, making them genuinely good value for a group. These are the most sought-after pitches at Mile 108 and book out well in advance, especially during fishing season. Request specifically when booking.
For a more sheltered stay than open camping, the Fisherman's Cabins are simple beach huts with a braai, storage space, and basic facilities overlooking the Atlantic. Each cabin sleeps a maximum of 2 guests (bed only — no meals). A good option for couples or solo anglers who want a roof over their heads and a bit of protection from the coastal wind, without the cost or complexity of setting up camp. Still fully off-grid — no electrical plugs, donkey boiler hot water.
Mile 108 runs entirely on solar power — there are no electrical plugs at any campsite or cabin. Water is heated by donkey boiler (fire-heated system). Cell signal and patchy Wi-Fi are available at the reception area only. A basic shop at the camp sells snacks, water, sodas, juice, and beer. Three communal freezers are available on a first-come, first-served basis for storing your catch.
Bring all fishing gear from home — there is no tackle shop on site. Also bring torches, power banks, and everything you need for self-catering. The nearest town for major resupply is Swakopmund.
