On the eastern side of Etosha National Park, Namutoni Resort centres around a beautifully restored German Fort that dates back to the late 19th century — originally a colonial police post, later used as an army base. The fort's iconic whitewashed towers rise dramatically above the surrounding bush, making Namutoni one of the most distinctive camps in all of Africa.
The resort overlooks the floodlit King Nehale waterhole, where wildlife gathers around the clock. The eastern section of Etosha is renowned for its diverse game — including large herds of elephant and impressive concentrations of black-faced impala, zebra, wildebeest, and giraffe.
Spacious and well-appointed, the rooms at Namutoni include an en-suite bathroom with both a bath and an outdoor shower — a special touch that makes them stand out. Each room has air conditioning, a mini fridge, a tea and coffee station, and an outside sitting area. Towels and toiletries are provided.
The bush chalets at Namutoni are available in one-bedroom and two-bedroom configurations. All are equipped with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning, a small fridge, and a kettle. Each chalet has a spacious interior sitting area as well as an outdoor seating area — ideal for watching the bush come alive at dusk.
One of the most popular campsites in Etosha, Namutoni's camping area is set on a grassy site with trees dotted between pitches. All 25 sites have their own braai (BBQ), power point, light, and water. Three shared bathroom blocks with wash basins, showers, and toilets serve the campsite.
Namutoni sits in the game-rich eastern section of Etosha — an area known for exceptional concentrations of wildlife, particularly around the Fischer's Pan and King Nehale waterhole. The fort itself is a remarkable historical landmark worth exploring during the heat of the day.
The dry season from June to October brings the best game viewing as animals concentrate around waterholes, but Namutoni's eastern section offers excellent sightings year-round. The wet season brings migratory birds and lush green landscapes.
Camping at Namutoni is particularly popular and books up quickly, especially during peak season (June to October) and school holidays. Book as far in advance as possible.
