Opened in 2011, Dolomite Camp was the first tourist facility to be built inside the formerly restricted western section of Etosha National Park. Today, together with Olifantsrus Camp, it remains one of only two places to stay in this remote, pristine part of the park — which borders Damaraland and offers a wilderness experience markedly different from the more-visited central and eastern camps.
Twenty thatched chalets perch on and around the edges of a dramatic dolomite ridge. The restaurant, bar, infinity pool, and fireside bomas all face west across the open plains — a setting made for sundowners and unforgettable star-lit evenings.
Twenty chalets built on elevated wooden decks on and around the outer edges of the dolomite ridge. All feature thatched roofs, canvas walls, and large wooden-framed retractable doors that open onto spectacular panoramic views of the western Etosha plains. Rooms are elegantly furnished with local and regional fittings, using natural fabrics for a warm, ethnic ambiance.
Dolomite's fully equipped restaurant seats 40 guests with views across the surrounding landscape. The service is personal and intimate. Alongside an international à la carte menu, the chef also serves Namibian contemporary lifestyle cuisine. Special dietary requirements — vegetarian, kosher, and others — should be noted at time of reservation.
The western section of Etosha is black rhino country. Desert elephant, lion, and large herds of zebra, giraffe and antelope roam the open plains around Dolomite. Both Plains Zebra and Mountain Zebra can be seen drinking side by side — a rare sight. The rare Sable Antelope has also been recorded here, and black-faced impala are well established in the area. Black and white rhino are frequently seen at Klip-pan waterhole.
Wildlife excursions are led by professional, knowledgeable tour guides with intimate knowledge of western Etosha. The main activities include guided morning and evening game drives, guided night drives, and self-drive exploration of the western park roads. Dolomite is also an ideal midway stopover for travellers making the journey between Etosha and Swakopmund, offering a true taste of the Damaraland wilderness.
